Q. Which sewing machine and overlocker do you use?
A. I currently have two sewing machines: a Janome J3-24 called Jeanie, which is the same machine I purchased when I first started sewing in 2012 from Direct Sewing Machines in Bristol; and a Pfaff Passport 3.0, an upgrade in February 2017 called Patricia.
My overlocker is a Singer 14SH754 called Susie, which I purchased from Lidl supermarket on one of the days they were having a sewing-themed sale. It’s also a great budget overlocker but it’s a shame it doesn’t have a seam guide.
They’re named after my mother, Jean and auntie’s; Susan and Patricia.
Q. Which dressform/tailor’s dummy do you have?
A. I use an Adjustoform Lady Valet (size S) with 12 adjusters that allow for precise measurement. She’s great for giving a general sense of fit of a garment and also for pinning paper pattern pieces to. She’s called Virginia after my maternal grandmother (we called her nan) who use to sew a lot, as did my mom.
Q. What camera do you use?
A. I’ve had both point-and-shoot and digital SLRs over the years but at the start of 2016, I purchased an Olympus OM-D EM-10 Mark II Compact System Camera with 14-42mm EZ Lens. I use this for all blog photography and filming my vlogs. I also use a Velbon DF-41 Compact Aluminium Photo/Video Tripod and a Wireless Remote Control Shutter Release for Olympus PEN, both of which I purchased on Amazon.
Q. Where do you buy your fabric and patterns?
A. Here, there and everywhere! I’ve put together a page of sewing haunts I frequent. However, I’m always on the lookout for other great fabric and haberdashery stockists so welcome any recommendations you might have!
Q. Which sewing books would you recommend?
A. One of my most used books is Sewaholic‘s Sewtionary for looking up sewing techniques and terms. There are a range of other sewing books on my shelves including The Great Sewing Bee From Stitch To Style from the 2016 series and Kristiann Boos’, of Victory Patterns, Boundless Style; both of which I’m yet to try and really want to!
Q. Can I sponsor your blog, vlog or place ads in your sidebar?
A. Yes! Please visit the Sponsor & Collaborate page to find out more information.
